Research Interests

My research includes using global chemical transport models, in conjunction with satellite and aircraft observations, to study atmospheric composition and the factors that control it. In particular, I use the MOZART model and satellite measurements of carbon monoxide (CO) from MOPITT to study the transport of pollution from industrialized areas such as North America and Asia, and from biomass burning in the Southern Hemisphere. Through quantitative comparison of the MOPITT CO retrievals and in situ measurements from aircraft, I have performed the validation of MOPITT CO observations.

I am also interested in using carbon-13 isotopes to study the impact of different sources on given locations, and in using measurements of del(13C) in comparison with model results to constrain emissions inventories. See, e.g.:
Poster at 8th IGAC Meeting, Christchurch, NZ September 4-9, 2004 (PDF)

I have created 'Data Composites' of aircraft measurements of ozone and its precursors for use in model evaluation, now available on the MOZART website, under Data.
