I teach Research I, II & III at the Rockdale Magnet School for Science & Technology in Conyers, GA. The Research Classes involve conceptualizing, researching, experimenting, and writing of the formal paper, including statistical analysis. Additionally, my students are taught presentation skills and advanced lab skills. I have been with the Magnet School for three years; prior to that I taught Earth & Physical Science at Sutton Middle School in Atlanta, GA for 14 years. I began my teaching career teaching English at D. T. Howard High School (also in Atlanta) for 3 years.

My education includes a B.S. degree in Education from Kent State University—I majored in English and Library Science. In 1976 I began work towards an additional undergraduate degree in Geology at Tulane University and the University of New Orleans. I completed coursework necessary for the double undergraduate and went on to get a M. Ed. in General Science Education at Georgia State University in 1992.

On the personal side, I am an Ohio native even though I have lived in Atlanta for 29 years and was in New Orleans for 3. I maintain a home in Decatur, Georgia and have a former racing greyhound and two parakeets to keep me company. I have traveled fairly extensively, having been to all 48 continental U.S. States, Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada, Ecuador, Peru, Patagonia (Argentina and Chile), Costa Rica, Jamaica, Germany, Switzerland, and France. I am an active hiker and camper but also enjoy the Atlanta Symphony and various local theater companies. I also love reading, even though I rarely have time for it during the school year (LOTS of research papers to read). I am a member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta and the Georgia Science Teacher’s Association.
